Sailing to Tahuata

MFT: Murphy’s oil
LFP: Cleaning ad nauseum

Hallo, so today we set sail very early from Nuku Hiva to Tahuata. It’s only 80 nm away from Nuku Hiva but we had to motor sail the whole way (the mainstaysil was up just to help the boat from pitching so much). I asked for an early wake up (5:30) so I could put away my equipment and gather my clean laundry up before we set sail! Also I think it was my last chance to check emails till Mangareva or possibly till Papeete!

We had morning watch which basically meant I made sure the CHIRP was finding bottom and then helped out on deck a lot and tried not to feel too sea-sick. Sadly staring at a computer while underway makes me feel instantly unwell. Even worse…well most of my work necessitates staring at computers frequently. Also, I never throw-up, I just feel incredibly nauseous. Anyways, after lunch today we had field day again. I got lucky and was given the job of oiling up all the wood inside the boat. I got to use Murphy’s oil and water. It smelled very nice and kept the seasickness at bay which was nice. We also got candy again today during field day which always makes a nice surprise while working hard.

After all the cleaning was done, we got to have a group deck shower! Aka the First Mate hosed us all off with a saltwater fire hose! Rather silly and fun but a good way to get clean. The best part was Dan, my watch mate, pick up a bottle of what he thought was shampoo and then realize it was conditioner. He immediately washed it off and grabbed the shampoo bottle. Apparently conditioner is a rare thing (at least for him!). Afterwards we got a quick (very quick) fresh water rinse from a deck hose. We finally made it to Tahuata anchorage after dark. Tomorrow I get to go ashore and rent a car for the day again.
