Last day on Eneko
MFT: Yummy dinner, ankle brace, & bug spray (I hate it but I need it so badly)

Hallo!
So today was our last day on Eneko. We split today so Richard and Steph went to CHIRP and get Bathy data from the lagoon. Chris and I got to finish up some carbon samples and RTK the island. The day started out pretty well with some new solutions for the RTK that did NOT include using ARC pad at all (see previous post for diatribe). We managed to mostly make it work.
We walked all morning collecting samples and trying to get the RTK to work optimally. We have gone down to the minimal data collection -- it basically just records strings of characters and numbers. Now we just have to figure out how to read the data into a csv file. Here is an example of the data!

Now the problem is really all we need is the bold part which gives us lat, long, elevation. However lots of other things are also output including nonsense parts periodically. So now I'm trying to figure out the best/most efficient way to read these files into matlab (think of a file that has over 40,000 lines of this). Ideas are welcome! (I'm wrestling slowly with textscan and string formatting).
Anyways, in the afternoon Chris got a clever idea to elevate the RTK antenna higher on the backpack so we had better data connection and higher resolution. The boat team had pretty good luck overall too. The evening was spent cleaning and packing all the equipment and playing Gin Rummy. Tomorrow we get to GPR and GPS Majuro Island. Richard is supposed to meet up with some local senators about our next trip to the Marshalls (which may happen in the fall, but no idea yet). I'll keep you posted!
