Sailing again!
MFT: PASSIONFRUITE MOUSSE
LFP: Sailing again…
Hallo! We are back at sea! We started up
with sea watches again and got right back into the swing of things. We have
officially finished HALF the cruise (it’s been just over 3 weeks now). So the
students are being given more and more responsibility by the staff & crew
during watches. Also they have a lab practical coming up at the end of the week
plus some new assignments to get checked off for on the boat. This means I
mostly try to stay out the way as they need to ask the staff/crew for
clarification/questions ect.
We started with mid watch (2300-0300) and
got a nice dry watch (woohoo). Just before we came on the bioluminescence was
crazy nice (like our wake had these gorgeous blue blobs) but then it stopped.
We set the main at the start of the watch (ow my poor hands) and then set the
Jib & JT. We even set the Fish during the watch. All in all, we’ve got more
sails on now then ever! Cause of our course, we can mostly sail sans motor and
NOT into the big swell. So everyone is feeling much better and a lot less
seasick! In addition, we are starting to chart various stars (for navigation
and charting purposes). Watches have gotten busier now that we have more sails
to deal with (at the first sign of squalls we have to strike the Fish and JT).
Moreover, because a student is now shadowing an watch instructor, we tend to be
one hand less for various jobs.
During class today, the students got to
talk about the Marquesas and their impressions. Everyone is still pretty tired
out from the week of intense shore activities. Plus now we are back to the
weird sleep schedule so I imagine all of us will take a couple of days to get
back in the rhythm of sleeping whenever. We had afternoon watch today and then
for snack, Sayzie made the best thing ever! She remembered an old conversation
a couple of weeks ago where I said that my favorite dessert was passionfruit
mousse. Apparently no one else had ever heard of that (common in Miami and
fancy restaurants). Anyways, she made it today for snack! I had about 3
helpings and tried my best to clean the bowl out as much as possible (obviously
to save the dishwasher some work not because I love it so much). That snack
rather made my day! This was good because we had galley cleanup (with some
nasty spills everywhere and tons of oil on the griddle from hamburger lunch).
In addition this coming morning after dawn watch we get to do dawn cleanup
(urgh). All in all, life is back on the
ship. However, I now have a couple of creature comforts in the form of puffy
cheetos and dorritos plus some candy! These make things better for example when
lunch consist of hamburgers (not too much for me to eat). I’ll post photos soon
I promise!
